Guide for Crafting an ATS - Friendly Resume

plus handpicked Job Positions

Hello Everyone,

Sanjana here.

Hope you all are doing well.

In today’s edition, we are going to dive deep into the topic of how to create an ATS-Friendly Resume.

Plus at the end some handpicked job options for you.

How to create an ATS Friendly Resume

  1. Use standard font and Formatting

    • Stick to standard fonts like Arial, New Roman, or Calibri. Avoid decorative or script fonts.

    • Use a font size between 10 and 12 points

    • Maintain consistent formatting throughout the document. Use heading and subheading consistently ( e.g. all caps for heading, bold for job titles etc)

  2. Simple Layout

    • Avoid using tables, text boxes, or columns as ATS systems may struggle to read them.

    • Use a simple, clean layout with clear section headings.

  3. Keyword optimization

    • Include relevant keywords and phrases from the job description in your resume

    • Use industry-specific terminology & skills where appropriate.

    • Don’t overstuff keywords; ensure they flow naturally within your content

  4. Use Relevant Job Titles

    • Use the exact job titles you’ve held in the past, as this is how ATS often searches for relevant experience

  5. Avoid special characters

    • Don’t use special characters, symbols or unusual formatting in your resume, as ATS may misinterpret them.

  6. Avoid Headers and Footers

    • ATS may not always read text placed in headers or footers, so it’s best to keep all essential information in the main body of the document.

  7. File Naming

    • Use a straightforward file name like “ FirstName_LastName_Resume.pdf” to make it easy for the recruiters and ATS to identify your resume.

  8. Use standard file formats

    • Save your resume as a PDF file ( eg “Aina_Sanghi_Resume.pdf” ) to ensure compatibility with ATS systems.

  9. Include Contact Information

    • Place your contact information ( name, phone number, and email) at the top of your resume so that it’s easily accessible to recruiters.

Well, that’s all information that I knew, so I passed it you.

Hope you all ace your interviews.
