Master Interview with One Simple Question
The Art of Asking the Right Questions
Hi everyone,
Sanjana here, and welcome to the second edition of Code Your Career.
In this edition, we're diving into a crucial aspect of interviews: standing out.
If you're aiming to make a lasting impression during your next interview, you're in the right place.
Let's talk about something that often goes overlooked: asking insightful questions at the end of your interview.
Believe it or not, a staggering 99% of candidates fail to ask compelling questions that showcase their interest and understanding of the role.
So, what's the game-changer?
It's one simple question:
"Let’s fast forward a year from today. You’ve made this hire—maybe it’s me, and maybe it's not—and a whole year has gone by. What does a homerun hire look like for you?"
In essence, you're asking the interviewer to envision success. What milestones need to be achieved in that year for them to confidently say, "This hire was a game-changer"?
Why do I love this question?
Firstly, it demonstrates genuine interest in the interviewer's perspective and goals. It shows that you're not just focused on landing the job but also on excelling in it.
Secondly, it provides you with invaluable insight. By understanding what success looks like for the company, you gain a clear roadmap for your own success if hired.
But here's the real kicker:
When interviewers respond to this question, they often reveal details about the role and company culture that weren't discussed previously.
It's like unlocking a hidden treasure trove of information.
So, remember to jot down their answers and analyze them later.
These insights can give you a significant edge in understanding the role and aligning yourself with the company's vision.
Now, armed with this knowledge, go forth and ace those interviews!
